enquire about fine linefine line covers more ground here than the name suggests, which is why five artists work in it and rarely overlap. hannah's medieval-adjacent linework, cameron's tight forearm-scale detail, lana's blackwork and stipple combinations, ashlee's ornamental lace and pearl work, madi's small gothic pieces: five distinct ways of using a thin, controlled line to do all the work with no shading to hide behind. an enquiry here isn't matched to whoever's free next, it's matched to whichever of the five actually suits the idea you've brought.
that matching happens at consultation, properly, before anything is booked in. fine line goes wrong in two specific ways, and both are avoidable with the right conversation early. it's rushed or packed too tightly, so lines that should stay distinct blur into each other as the skin heals, or it's tattooed too small to begin with, so detail that looked crisp on paper spreads and softens within a few years. we'll say so honestly if an idea needs to be bigger before it goes anywhere near the machine, because there's no fixing an undersized fine line piece afterwards. the fix is starting again, bigger, somewhere else, and that's a cost worth avoiding by getting the scale conversation right the first time.
every piece is drawn from scratch for the person having it. nothing here comes off a printed sheet or repeats from someone else's arm, which matters more in fine line than almost any other style, since the placement and proportion of a thin line has to be worked out specifically for the body it's going on. that's most of what a fine line consultation actually is: less about picking an image, more about deciding scale, placement and which of the five artists' hands suits the piece.
it suits detailed, personal work more than bold graphic pieces: someone who wants precision and is willing to give a design the real estate it needs, rather than someone chasing maximum coverage in minimum space. it ages best on flatter areas of the body that don't stretch or fold much day to day, forearms, calves, ribs done carefully, and needs a little more aftercare discipline than bolder work since thin lines are the first thing to blur if a fresh tattoo gets knocked or over-moisturised.
bring a clear idea of scale to your consultation, even if the imagery itself is still loose. that's the conversation, more than the drawing, that actually determines whether a fine line piece still looks sharp in a decade, and it's one we'd rather have properly before booking than rush through on the day.

what to expect
fine line work is unhurried by nature. smaller pieces, a single flower, a short phrase, usually sit in a session of an hour and a half to two hours, since the linework can't be rushed without losing its precision. larger ornamental or illustrative pieces are scaled up and planned across more time, sometimes more than one sitting, because it takes longer to hold that same fine, even line over a bigger area. your artist will say so honestly at consultation if an idea needs to be sized up before it goes anywhere near the machine.
