she apprenticed at a studio in bury st edmunds, then decided conventional was not what she wanted and came to shade instead. four and a half years in now.

her work is illustrative and medieval — heavy linework with the feel of an old woodcut or engraving, built from hatching and line weight rather than shading. knights, saints, martyrs, animals, objects that look like they've been lifted out of a manuscript. she's one of very few artists in the country doing this properly, which means most people who come to her for it have already been looking for a while.

everything is drawn by hand and made for the person having it — no flash, no repeats. bring her a reference or even just an idea in words, and she'll draw something built around it rather than copy what you found online. that drawing stage takes longer than a straightforward transfer would, but it's the part that makes the piece actually yours.

a session with hannah is quiet and steady — the hatching that makes medieval linework read like an engraving is built one careful pass at a time, so there's no shortcut to rushing it. she'll talk you through the reference research as she goes, which is as much a part of the style as the ink itself.

she also takes on fine line pieces — smaller, lighter linework that doesn't need the full woodcut treatment — so she's not limited to large-scale manuscript work if what you want is something quieter.
